Simon Gerrard, Chief Executive of Cheshire FA issued the following statement:
Cheshire Football Association is delighted to announce that we will be supporting Ciarans Cause as our first ever official Charity partner.
For Ciarans Cause to have raised so much money to provide and donate defibrillators to nearly 60 schools in under two years is truly staggering and I hope that Cheshire FA can add its support and resources to ensure that their fantastic work continues.
Football is a fantastic team sport which can have numerous benefits, however it should not suddenly take away players such as Ciaran from his family, simply for playing a game that he loved.
Cheshire FA, through myself, are passionate to do all we can in supporting Marika to ensure that we can put in place as much support and information to our clubs to help combat the risk of others who may find themselves in the same situation.
On a weekly basis in Cheshire we have over 53 thousand players in over 700 clubs, equating to over four thousand teams, playing affiliated football. Through our partnership with Ciarans Cause we hope to be able to raise awareness of the issue to as many of the players and the four thousand plus volunteers who keep the game of football in Cheshire running.
By raising awareness and helping to raise money for the charity, we hope to provide many of our clubs with the equipment and training they need to have the knowledge to respond to any incidents of cardiac arrest that may occur.
We have planned a number of events through the rest of 2014 to hopefully raise vital funds for this fantastic cause and we will be releasing more details of these in the coming weeks.
On behalf of Cheshire FA I would like to say how proud we are to be associated with such a magnificent charity and hopefully we can use our position in Cheshire as facilitators of the sport of football that Ciaran loved so much to raise awareness and funds for this worthy cause.
